A Fully Offline AI Agent Running on a Raspberry Pi
A working AI agent that runs entirely on-device with no cloud, no API keys, and no data leaving the box.
Most AI tools assume a constant connection to someone else's servers. That's a dealbreaker for anyone who cares about privacy, works in a low-connectivity environment, or simply doesn't want their data sitting in a third party's logs. The question was whether a genuinely useful agent could run fully offline on cheap, low-power hardware, or whether that's just a demo that falls apart the moment you ask it to do real work.
I built and filmed an AI agent running entirely on a Raspberry Pi 5, using Ollama to serve a local model with no internet dependency at all. The agent runs inside a sandbox with path guards so it can act on the system safely without being able to wander where it shouldn't. I documented the whole thing live, including the parts that broke: the sandbox guards that were too strict, the model's real limits on small hardware, and the tradeoffs between speed and capability when everything runs on-device.
The result is a proof that edge AI is practical, not just theoretical. It also became honest, watchable content, because the failures were left in rather than edited out.
